Tilburg University will host the 6th International Workshop on Computational Semantics on 12-14 January 2005. The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers interested in any aspect of the computation, annotation, and representation of meaning in natural language, in multimedia objects, or in multimodal messages.

Topics

Areas of special interest for IWCS-6 will be computational aspects of semantic theories; theoretical aspects of the design and implementation of language understanding systems and systems for multimodal communication; and semantic annotation of natural language and multimodal utterances. Papers are invited that are concerned with topics in these areas, including but not limited to the following:

Proceedings

Accepted papers will appear in the proceedings, which will be available at the time of the conference. We also aim at publishing a selection of the accepted papers in book form.

A selection of papers from IWCS-2 has been published as Computing Meaning, Vol. 1, Harry Bunt and Reinhard Muskens, editors, Kluwer 1999, while papers from IWCS-3 have been published as Computing Meaning, Vol. 2, Harry Bunt, Reinhard Muskens and Elias Thijsse, editors, Kluwer 2001. Computing Meaning 3 (with papers from IWCS-4 and IWCS-5) is in preparation.

Special Event: Joint SIGSEM/ISO meeting

Immediately preceding IWCS-6, on 10-11 January 2005, the ACL SIGSEM Working Group on the Representation of Multimodal Semantic Information will have its fourth meeting at Tilburg University. This is a joint meeting with the newly formed Thematic Domain Group on Multimodal Content of the International Standards Organisation (Technical Committee 37, Subcommittee 4 on standardisation in language resources). In this meeting, members of the Thematic Domain Group will present initial efforts aimed at identifying interoperable concepts for semantic representation and annotation in 6 subdomains:

This meeting will be open to IWCS-6 participants. For more information see the SIGSEM Working Group website at http://let.uvt.nl/research/TI/sigsem/wg
